Washington, DC, Aug. 21 – The United States Department of State has approved a possible $4.5 billion Foreign Military Sale to Qatar involving KC-46A aerial refueling aircraft and related equipment. Qatar requested up to four KC-46A Pegasus tankers, eight PW4062 turbofan engines, ten AN/ALR-69A radar warning receivers, fifteen Guardian Laser Transmitter Assemblies for Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasure systems, and eight LAIRCM system processor replacements. The package also covers non-major defense equipment such as precision navigation systems, transportation and airlift support, personnel training, training equipment, and logistical program support items essential for operational readiness.

This proposed US sale of KC-46As to Qatar aims to strengthen the nation’s ability to address current and future threats while enhancing overall defense capabilities. By improving interoperability with United States and allied forces, the deal reinforces Qatar’s strategic role in promoting regional security across the Middle East. The transaction aligns with broader American foreign policy and national security goals by assisting a key partner that contributes to political stability and economic progress in the region.

Principal contractors expected to participate in the $4.5 billion KC-46A sale include Boeing, Pratt & Whitney Military Engines, RTX Corporation, and Northrop Grumman Corporation. Implementation of the Foreign Military Sale will not require any additional United States government or contractor personnel to be stationed in Qatar. At present, no offset agreement has been identified in connection with the potential transaction, though any such arrangement would be determined through negotiations between Qatar and the relevant contractors.
