U.S. Air Force Advances Billion-Dollar Nellis Campus for Boeing F-47 Testing
Nevada, October 30 – The U.S. Air Force plans a $1.057 billion campus at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada to test the Boeing F-47 sixth-generation fighter. Boeing was selected in March 2025 to develop the aircraft replacing the F-22 Raptor in the 2030s with advanced stealth, data sharing, electronic warfare, and the ability to direct semi-autonomous Collaborative Combat Aircraft. The campus supports operational testing.
An October 22 presolicitation seeks up to four firms for the design-and-build project with initial award in February 2027. East-side facilities include a nearly 117,000-square-foot building for flightline operations and maintenance, a systems-reprogramming laboratory, an aircraft apron with sunshades, and a nearly 41,000-square-foot simulator. Later work may add hangars for fuel-system maintenance, stealth corrosion control, and weapons-load and maintenance training.
Nine months of design and preconstruction after award precede about 40 months of construction targeting early March 2031 completion. This follows the fiscal 2027 budget request for $730 million in F-47 hangars and support infrastructure at Nellis for operational testing. The first F-47 is under construction and set to fly in 2028.
These plans position Nellis Air Force Base as the hub for F-47 evaluation, enabling the U.S. Air Force to validate the Boeing aircraft. The $1 billion campus delivers essential infrastructure for testing.
