Kuala Lumpur, October 27 – Lufthansa has reintroduced direct flights between Frankfurt and Kuala Lumpur following an extended pause that began in early 2016. The inaugural arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport took place on 26 October 2026, ending reliance on connecting itineraries for passengers traveling between Germany and Malaysia. The restoration strengthens one of Europe’s primary gateways to Southeast Asia after years of indirect routing only.
Operations use the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner (Reg. D-ABPS) configured with Lufthansa’s Allegris cabin product on a year-round basis. Five weekly departures are scheduled, with LH704 leaving Frankfurt in the late evening and reaching Kuala Lumpur the next afternoon, while the return sector departs Kuala Lumpur late at night. The aircraft carries 287 passengers across business, premium economy, and economy cabins, delivering a modern long-haul product on the revived corridor.
The airline previously maintained service to the Malaysian capital from 2004, including periods of one-stop and nonstop operations, before withdrawing for commercial reasons. With the current nonstop schedule, Lufthansa joins British Airways, KLM, and Turkish Airlines as the fourth European carrier offering direct flights to Kuala Lumpur. From the carrier’s core European markets, the route supplies the sole nonstop alternative, facilitating connections across the Frankfurt hub network.
The revived service supports corporate travel, leisure demand tied to Malaysia’s tourism initiatives, and commercial ties involving hundreds of German companies active in the country. Frequency is set to increase to daily operations from the summer 2027 schedule, further expanding Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s European links. Passengers gain a streamlined nonstop option on this significant intercontinental route.
