Discover how Singapore Airlines plans to cut carbon emissions using sustainable aviation fuel made from waste gas at a new Singapore plant.

Singapore, October 30 – Singapore Airlines has reached a landmark agreement to purchase up to 4,800 tonnes of next-generation sustainable aviation fuel over a three-year period. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in 2028 from Project Beacon, a specialized commercial production facility being developed by Aether Fuels on Pulau Bukom island in Singapore. This key arrangement marks the national carrier as the premier airline to secure sustainable fuel from this local facility.

Southwest Airlines Pioneers Sustainable Aviation Fuel with Valero Deal

Southwest Airlines has recently inked a significant deal with Valero Energy, marking a pivotal step towards sustainable aviation by committing to the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW)…

The production facility transforms industrial waste gases and biomethane into liquid aviation fuel using Aether’s proprietary Aurora technology. This innovative conversion pathway provides a scalable alternative to standard lipid-based feedstocks, offering enhanced efficiency in lower-carbon fuel manufacturing. The resulting fuel effectively reduces greenhouse gas emissions by more than 70 percent compared to conventional jet fuel choices.

Securing locally produced sustainable aviation fuel reinforces the carrier’s commitment toward its long-term ambition of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Furthermore, this initiative aligns with the joint target set by the flagship carrier and its subsidiary Scoot to incorporate 5 percent sustainable fuel across total operational requirements by 2030.

Through strategic commercial partnerships, Singapore Airlines continues to demonstrate strong market demand for cleaner energy alternatives within Southeast Asia. Expanding domestic production pathways accelerates decarbonization while strengthening the regional aviation industry’s sustainability ecosystem.
