Brussels, Sept. 1 – The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) narrowed its Gulf airspace warning Monday by extending until September 30 advice that airlines avoid Persian Gulf waters airspace within Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and UAE flight information regions. This EASA aviation safety advisory is narrower than the prior recommendation to avoid those countries’ entire national airspace amid Middle East aviation safety concerns.
Risks over Persian Gulf waters stay high, yet arrivals and departures at aerodromes in affected flight information regions may occur with sufficient mitigation. Airlines should exercise caution over the land territory of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates and must not operate over Gulf of Oman waters in the Oman Muscat flight information region according to the latest EASA update.
EASA lifted the Jordanian airspace avoidance recommendation but advises operators to exercise caution through September 30. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency extended existing bans on operations in Iran, Iraq and Lebanon airspace until the end of September to enhance passenger safety.
Beirut International Airport flights are allowed if the approach starts from the sea or the departure ends over the sea. The EASA Gulf airspace warning and related Middle East aviation safety advisories remain effective for safe airline operations until specified September dates.
