Montreal, October 16 – Air Canada has revealed a new eight-hour Airbus A321XLR route to Europe, launching nonstop flights from Montreal-Trudeau International Airport to Seville Airport. Announced well ahead of the September 8 start date, this service marks the first nonstop connection from North America to the Andalusian capital. The 3,008-nautical-mile route covers 5,571 kilometers and expands Air Canada’s growing Spanish network alongside existing links to Barcelona, Madrid, Palma de Mallorca, and Tenerife South.
Canada’s largest airline will initially operate the service three times weekly aboard its 182-seat Airbus A321XLR, increasing to four weekly flights from October 1. After a brief pause in early January 2028, operations resume on February 19 and continue through early June. This thin-route deployment suits the long-range narrowbody, which enables efficient transatlantic flying without relying on larger widebody aircraft.
Seville, the capital of southern Spain’s popular Andalusia region, boasts the area’s largest metropolitan population and attracts strong tourism interest. Air Canada selected the destination partly for its limited competition, distinguishing it from more crowded Spanish airports such as Malaga. The schedule deliberately avoids peak summer periods when extreme heat could restrict payload on the densely configured aircraft.
From January 2027, Air Canada plans 20 Airbus A321XLR routes to Europe, with more than half originating from Montreal. The Seville service forms part of this broader expansion that also introduces or resumes links to Basel, Nantes, Oslo, Shannon, and Tenerife South. The aircraft’s range and efficiency support these secondary European markets while maintaining competitive flight times of roughly seven to eight hours.
