Paris, October 8 – Airbus confirmed on Wednesday that Biman Bangladesh Airlines has ordered 10 jets, a move announced by the European planemaker in Paris. The agreement expands the national carrier’s capacity and strengthens Airbus commercial aircraft sales in South Asian markets. This Airbus order for Biman Bangladesh follows expected fleet growth and supports rising passenger traffic on regional and long-haul routes served by the airline.
The order includes four long-haul Airbus A350-900 aircraft and six medium-haul A321neo jets. The A350-900 widebody models will support Biman Bangladesh international services, while the A321neo narrowbody jets improve efficiency on medium-haul sectors. The Airbus deal had been anticipated after Biman Bangladesh completed a separate Boeing aircraft purchase.
Last month, Biman Bangladesh Airlines ordered 11 Boeing jets comprising 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX aircraft. Its current fleet of 19 planes consists mainly of Boeing jets and Dash-8 turboprops. Introducing Airbus A350-900 and A321neo aircraft diversifies the Biman Bangladesh fleet and adds capacity for domestic and overseas operations.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat said late last month that Biman Bangladesh serves slightly more than 20 percent of the country’s air passengers. The confirmed Airbus order helps the carrier address demand growth in Bangladesh aviation. Combined Airbus and Boeing acquisitions form part of a broader fleet modernization effort aimed at reliable passenger service.
