Petaling Jaya, Aug. 17 – A Malaysian pilot nabbed in Indonesia for drug smuggling has been involved in transporting illicit substances since 2024, according to Bukit Aman authorities (Royal Malaysian Police). The 39-year-old suspect, arrested at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang on July 29 after arriving from Kuala Lumpur on flight MH727, was found with approximately 25kg of drugs. Indonesian customs detected suspicious luggage via X-ray scan, uncovering 14 packages containing 70,114 ecstasy pills weighing about 25kg along with 4g of methamphetamine in his carry-on belongings.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan revealed that questioning of the pilot in Jakarta showed he had smuggled drugs to several countries multiple times based on his flight schedule. This was not his first involvement, as he transported narcotics out of Malaysia on various occasions since 2024. The Malaysian pilot drug smuggling case has provided key insights into international networks.
Further investigations uncovered information on drug syndicates operating in Malaysia, Indonesia and other nations. Police plan to probe identified members and examine financial flows linked to drug sales, while sharing details of the international syndicate network with relevant foreign enforcement agencies. No evidence pointed to insider involvement at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, indicating the suspect acted alone when passing security checks.
The pilot remains in Indonesian police custody and will face legal proceedings there. Bukit Aman continues probing the exact number of shipments, destination countries, and payments received since 2024 in this ongoing Malaysian pilot Indonesia drug trafficking investigation. Authorities from both nations will handle any extradition considerations as probes advance.
